Trials, tribulations, tests. These are typically unwelcomed in our life. But seen in the right light, they set us up for a higher level. The challenges we face are to strengthen us, and it’s our attitude during them that determines how long those trials will last. But how do you trust in that?

How To Trust?

James Cash Penny, founder of JC Penny, was asked the the secret to success. He answered, “Adversity. I’ve always faced adversity, but it has brought something out of me and made me a success.”

Tests elevate us. Through the times of pressure and stress, you learn about yourself, the people around you. You realize how strong you really are, especially after you’ve gone through the trials and persevered.

We can’t see what’s before us, but we can look back and see the troubles in our life and how they’ve made us who we are. You choose to see that as a good thing or a bad one. Do you become bitter, resentful, closed off? Or do you rise to become wise, knowledgeable and more importantly, empathetic to those going through similar struggles? That choice is ultimately yours.

Some of you may think, “That’s easy for you to say, you aren’t going through what I’m going through. You’d never think what I’m going through was a good thing if you were me.” You’re right, I don’t know what you’re going through, and I’m not you. But I’ve been through tough times, and it helps me to understand, at least in some small way. I realized that through my tribulations, I learned invaluable lessons. Those lessons made me who I am, and each one makes me stronger.

If you don’t learn from the lessons given, those tests will continue to repeat themselves until you do. You can either take the best from it, or let the troubles repeat until you ultimately change. Then other trials begin so that we can learn something else. Think of it like school. We take tests to elevate a grade. We study, we prepare, so that when the test comes we can pass.

I understand that sometimes things happen in which we can’t explain. Bad things happen to good people. Good things happen to bad people. Those are uncontrollable, and at times, unable to be explained. By anyone. We don’t have all the answers. But I have faith that God does.

Trust in Him.

If we’re always in the same place we become stagnant. We can’t grow if we’re not being tested. The way I get through my difficult times is through constant prayer and by reading the Word of God. Scripture helps me. I read and study my favorite scriptures over and over to remind myself that I have Him to guide me. I trust in Him. And when I don’t, I tell myself that I do until I believe it.

God is good. He has the best in store for us when we press in and rely on Him. We only need to seek and draw closer to know Him better. And in knowing Him better, we are able to transform into something greater than what we were. That won’t come without the testing phase.

Tests aren’t easy, but we can turn them into our testimonies. We can rise champions.

How will you find ways to trust in Him?

James 1: 2-4

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
