Alphas of Danger Anthology

Alphas of Danger Anthology is now LIVE and available on all platforms!

I am so honored to be a part of this collection of short stories. Ten authors came together with Shannon Hunt from Once Upon An Alpha to raise awareness and funds for 4 Paws for Ability. All the proceeds from sales of this book will benefit the organization.

4 Paws for Ability enriches the lives of children with disabilities by training and placing quality, task-trained service dogs. This provides increased independence for the children, and assistance to their families. And 4 Paws also works with veterans from recent conflicts who’ve lost the use of their limbs or their hearing while in active combat.

Alphas of Danger is full of suspense, intrigue, and, of course, steamy, sexy, alpha males. All the authors wrote amazing stories, and I’m so proud of the finished product. It’s a dream come true to do what I love. On top of that, getting to work with or be included in a team of other creatives that love what they do is beyond my wildest dreams.

My short story is called WITH A VENGEANCE – about a woman wanting to prove her friend’s death was not a suicide–it was cold-blooded murder. In her quest for proof and vengeance against the man she believes ended her friend’s life, she meets a different man who isn’t all he seems…

Stories Contributed to Alphas of Danger are as follows:

1. DEVOTED TO WICKED by Shayla Black
2. COUNTDOWN by Lexi Blake
3. POWER STRUGGLE by Mari Carr
4. CIA COVERT TEAM: RAINBOW KNIGHTS (M/M) by Kris Cook
5. WITH A VENGEANCE by Anissa Garcia
6. HARD ASSET by Kym Grosso Author
7. REVENGE ON THE ROCKS by Jenna Jacob
8. SEDUCING DANGER by Kennedy Layne

TINY TIDBIT FROM WITH A VENGEANCE

Her –

He’s dauntingly large, masculine. My entire body screams in lust as I take another sip.

“So, what do you do that allows you to have a place like this?” I try to make small talk, but I know where all of this is leading.

“Financial things, analysis stuff,” he dismisses. He still won’t tell me about himself. What the hell am I doing? He could be a criminal.

“What kind of financial analysis stuff?”

“Stuff that would bore you.” We both laugh for a moment as he sticks a hand in his pocket looking like a GQ model.

“Yeah, but even in a regular finance job you wouldn’t be able to afford a place like this.” He doesn’t say anything and I shift. He could be a con artist, a drug dealer, with the mafia. As if he senses my unease, he finally answers.

“My parents died when I was two and left me everything. My uncle raised me. He worked on Wall Street and was extremely wealthy. He died from a heart attack a few years ago.” He tells the story with no bitterness.

“I’m so sorry,” I say softly.

“No need to be. I was loved. And I love what I do. But I get lonely.” He approaches me slowly. “Tell me something, beautiful. When was the last time you slept with a real man?”

My voice trembles. “Real man?”

His heated gaze runs over my face and to my lips. “Someone who knows how to please a woman.”

“Uh…” I’m breathless.

He stays silent and I nervously gulp down the rest of my drink. He takes the glass from me and sets it on the table nearby. His body is hovering and his hands move forward. He brushes my hair back from my face gently, then runs his fingertips over my jaw down to my neck. Goose bumps rise over my skin.

“I want you to feel special tonight,” he whispers as his mouth faintly grazes over mine. We aren’t kissing, but my nerve endings sizzle. I imagine how those lips will run over my entire body and a small shudder releases from my mouth. “You seem delicate…I’ll be careful.”

“I’m not,” I protest. “Don’t be.”

A Promise Broken is OUT and available on Amazon!!!

How can I express how excited I am to be releasing my third full length novel?!  There are days I say – I only have three books and a short story out?? Why am I not a faster writer??  Other times I stop and truly think about the fact that I’ve written books! I created a world that I love and I hope that readers will as well. There were times I’ve toiled, cried, pulled my hair, and I’ve wanted to quit more than once. But every time the little demons of doubt plagued me, I’ve always had someone encourage me and pull me out of that pit I got stuck in. And it’s always worth it once it’s been done.

This book took longer for me to put together than the others. From the beginning, I always knew Zach and Hilary’s story was different. It wasn’t the typical boy-meets-girl, meet-cute scenario I had been used to writing. There were no moments of the getting to know each other stage because they already knew each other. But when I delved into their backstory, I realized how rich and layered and textured it could be. I also realized that they were getting to know each other in a completely different way and that gave me more to work with. But I always want to make sure bases are covered with my characters. My a-ha moments with each character has to come to me, and with Zach and Hilary, it took me longer than usual to figure those out.

I have a tendency to be embarrassed when someone compliments my work. I’ve always told myself I shouldn’t accept it because I’m still growing and learning. This book has taught me to stand up tall (as tall as I can – since I’m pretty short) and receive the compliments. I’m proud of what I’ve accomplished in the span of a year and a month. Writing is hard. It takes a lot out of you when you’re giving your all to characters. They are a part of who the author is, and you want to do them justice and do right by your readers. I can only hope I’ve done that. I also hope to improve in my writing technique with each go. It’s important to me to bring the best that I can to someone who spends their hard earned money to escape the world around them to get lost in mine.  I also thank everyone, and I mean EVERYONE who has helped along the way. I can’t do it without that support. I’d be lost otherwise.

So, with that said, bringing A Promise Broken out into the world feels pretty damn great. I hope you love it!!

A Promise Broken Cover Reveal + Excerpt

I am so excited to finally reveal the cover for A Promise Broken!! What do you guys think?

And to celebrate my Cover Release Day, I’ve got a little sneak preview of Zach & Hilary’s story for you. This book isn’t available for pre-order just yet, but you can add it your “Want to Read” shelf on Goodreads.

Read The Excerpt from A Promise Broken:

I didn’t say anything. Instead, my eyes roamed his body as he approached. His jeans and shirt were perfectly snug. He sat beside me and grabbed the remote. I was hyper-aware of his proximity. He smelled like fabric softener and aftershave. It was familiar and comfortable.

“Hilary.” His voice was soft as his eyes met mine. “Stop looking at me like that.”

“Like what?” I blinked at him with innocence.

“Like you want me to make love to you,” he said breathlessly.

My heart skipped a beat. I fumbled with my hands. Make love. I hadn’t thought of him making love to me that night. He’d fucked me damn well, and I wanted that again. I also knew what his dilemma was, and I refused to pressure him.

“Don’t flatter yourself, Collins.” His phone trilled in his pocket. He reached in to retrieve it, looked at the screen, and hit the end button. “Who’s Isabella?”

He hesitated. “Uh, my chef.”

I rolled my eyes. “Bullshit. You know I can tell when you’re lying.”

“I’m not lying.” He laughed. “She’s my chef.”

“And your fuck buddy?” His eyes closed. Yup, he’d slept with her. His whole body tensed. “Do you like her?”

His eyes shot to mine. “No. I mean, yes, but…not in that way.”

The pang of possessiveness that swept through me was similar to when Graham had said he was working late, and that his co-worker was just that. “Is she pretty?” I asked quietly.

He nodded. “Very.”

“Oh.” Ouch, that stung more than I expected. I snapped out of my pity party and stood. “Well, then? Why aren’t you answering her call? You could be with her now.”

His bewilderment was obvious as I rushed to the window. It was hot, and I needed a draft. And he was right. Drinking around each other wasn’t a good idea. He watched as I yanked on the edges of the glass, trying to pry the window open.

“I told you, I don’t care for her in that way.”

“So? You don’t have to care for her in that way in order to fuck. You did it already, didn’t you?” I struggled, but the pane wouldn’t budge. “Dammit, the window won’t open, and it’s so hot in here.”

“Only once,” he mumbled reluctantly.

“Spare me the details, Zachary.” I tugged, becoming breathless as I fought against the window. My voice pitched higher as I tried hitting the edges with my palms. “Fucking stupid window.”

He drew up behind me, placing his hands over mine. I froze as his body pressed against me. We lingered, my back against his chest. Fast-paced huffs escaped him. His mouth was near my ear, the humidity of his breaths caused me to tremble.

“Gently.” He spoke affectionately, drawing up the window. The crisp air didn’t make a difference when his warm body was near mine. His hands wrapped around my waist, and he squeezed for only a second as his lips descended to the spot between my neck and shoulder. He gave the skin there a sweet kiss. His lips lingered longer than they should’ve. “You’re beautiful,” he whispered. His nose grazed my neck as he pulled away. “Graham will regret letting you go for the rest of his life.”

Chills ran down my spine, all thoughts of Graham long vanished. My body turned, needing more of Zach’s touch. His warm palms cupped my cheeks. I wanted more of him. All of him. He looked amazing tonight. I loved the way his emerald green eyes locked on mine, promising me that my darkest desires were a mere whisper away. His thick, dark hair swirled in waves I couldn’t wait to run my hands through. His strong touch had me reeling, and when he’d denied that he was a good man, instead of pushing me away, it only made feelings trickle in through the cracks of my heart.

He backed off and headed to the stairs, escaping me. Leaving me in complete need. Bitterness toward my brother crept over me. Zach wouldn’t lose his friend, his boss. I was a risk he wasn’t willing to take. I had to remember what Zach had said when he left me that day, naked and alone. Hilary, this can’t ever happen again. I was sure he’d stick by what he said. He was a good man, after all, and a good man didn’t break his promises. But maybe, just maybe, some promises were meant to be broken.

A Promise Made is Available Now

A Promise Made is available now!

Even though my short story A Promise Ignited is in The Alphas of Sin anthology with a plethora of talented authors, this is only my second release and the nerves are still ever present.  I keep asking if it gets easier, but many tell me it never does.  It’s not for me trying though.  I’ve told myself to keep cool about things, but it’s still scary.

The first book, A Promise Kept, (on sale right now for .99 cents…whaaaa?) was well received – despite the few flaws I now look back and cringe over.  People loved Marla and Josh in that novel and asked for their story.  This is it.  The expectations may be high, or they may think this wasn’t what they wanted, but this is how the characters spoke to me.  I only hope others enjoy it the way I enjoyed figuring out their lives.

Marla Sullivan is a woman who knows how to take care of herself.  She’s independent and has gotten used to being alone.  The idea of relinquishing control to a man like Josh McKenzie is something she’s not willing to do with ease.  Josh McKenzie is more of a gentle giant.  He knows his power, knows what he wants, and is an alpha with heart.  Neither of them is what they seem to be.  That’s what I love exploring in these characters.  You see them one way, but peeling layers, you find them different than what they seem.

Acknowledgements have to be one of the hardest parts of writing a book because once its been done there are so many you’ve forgotten or so many others that helped out in the process long after the book has been written.  Once again, on this writing journey, I couldn’t have done it without the help of my family and friends.  And by friends, I mean the whole spectrum of them.  From my awesome beta readers, to my amazing group of girls in Anissa’s Aces, and the readers, bloggers, my editor, cover artist, formatter, and authors… everyone has been so supportive and amazing.  It’s so hard when I have to ask for help.  That’s probably the roughest part of this author business for me.  I’m not good at asking people for things, but the ones who have offered, who have helped, all my gratitude and thanks go out to each and every single one of you.

And since it’s November, I will go and try out NaNoWriMo – where writers try to come up with 50K worth of story in the month of November.  Not sure I can necessarily do that with Zach’s story.  He’s complex, and writing his story will definitely be a challenge for me.  But I’ll give it my all, put my heart into it, and produce Zach’s story.  You see, you all deserve the best I can give, and I hope to earn your trust enough that you’ll expect me to do that for you with each book.

Thank you to everyone who purchased, read and reviewed.  It means the world to me.

A PROMISE MADE COVER REVEAL

It’s time for my novel’s Cover Reveal for A Promise Made!

It’s been a while since I’ve written a blog post, but I’ve been in my writing cave with Marla Sullivan and Josh McKenzie.  From the moment I began writing A Promise Kept back in 2014, (then titled Before Now and Until Then – a two-parter), Josh and Marla intrigued me.  In that version their whole story played out as a side story to Grace and Evan, but I realized they needed more space.  They needed their own book…and here it is.  It was a lot of hard work, and I’m still working at it, hoping I can bring you a story you can get lost in and enjoy.   A Promise Made is out November 3rd, and I can’t wait for you guys to read!  Please put on your TBR list on Goodreads!

A Promise Made Anissa Garcia

Josh McKenzie may come off as intimidating with his solid build and cold stare, but when trouble calls, Marla quickly learns there is more to the sexy tatted man with the British accent. And if she’s not careful, she can easily lose herself in his gentle touch and soft voice.
A feisty redhead with a mouth that won’t quit, Marla Sullivan knows how to push all of Josh’s buttons, making him want her in the worst way. His biggest hurdle is breaking through her stubborn walls and proving he’s here to stay.

EXCERPT

My back was against the ground and he crouched on his knees beside me.  “We’re going to have to reenact this, and like I said, if you have a problem with any part of it, stop me immediately.”

“Okay,” I whimpered looking up at him, his face hovering above mine.  His hand reached over to my legs, motioning me to open them.  He took his position between me, his arms propping him up as his face remained free of emotion.

My heart rate climbed significantly as I felt his crotch lean right up against mine.  Holy shit, the fabric between us was way too thin, and I could feel every single inch of him.  I bit my bottom lip as his eyes met mine.  “You haven’t even taken me out to dinner yet and I’m already under you.”

I laughed at my own joke, not because I thought I was hilarious, but because he was making me edgy.  He was unyielding in his visage, so serious and intimidating.  “Wrap your legs around me tightly.”  He grabbed at my thighs and hoisted my legs up higher.  “Lock your ankles at my back.”

I easily obeyed, and my body shuddered against him as he clenched my arm and wrapped it around his neck.  “Closeness at this point will be your friend.  One arm will be around my neck and the other at my arm.”  He buried his face at my shoulder and instead of scaring me the way it should have, I found it hot, sexy, and a turn on.  I could feel him all over me the way I had pictured, and felt like this whole situation was a bit messed up.  I was supposed to be fighting an attacker, not thinking about the ways I wanted him to ravish me.

“Now, I want your hand that’s holding my arm to reach toward the hem of my shirt and lift it up toward my neck.  Understand?”

Oh, I understood.  He was asking me to undress him, and this was supposed to be self-defense?  “Um, how is this going to protect me?”

“Trust me.”  He glanced up at me, our bodies tangled like a pretzel.  He guided me toward each step, showing me how to choke him, put my foot on his hip, keep my face close to his neck so he couldn’t use his hands to punch me, and then eventually pull myself away.  We tried the move several times.  At first slow, as he walked me through each step, reminding me of how easy it could be for him to pull away and win.  My moves were shaky, but with each go I found myself getting more confident.

After at least half an hour practicing the routine over and over, I finally got it down.  We tried one last go and instead of pushing away I stayed in place, feeling his humid breath on my neck as I held him down.  He pulled away to look at me, his pupils dilating as his body wriggled on top of me.  “You aren’t towing through this one, Red.  What’s wrong?”

We both paused, our breathing labored.  I licked my lips, loosened my grip on his shirt as my eyes hooded with lust.  I could feel his body twitch against me and I whimpered as my hips instinctively lifted, rubbing against him with the sweetest ache.  His skin was hot to the touch, and I was drowning in a sea of dark blue as I gazed into his eyes.

The sweetest groan from him made me senseless as it rang in my ears.  His fingertips trailed my lips as he rested on top of me, the both of us locked in each other’s embrace.  Foreheads touching, we were so close, extremely close, to achieving a goal I never knew I had wanted so badly.  Our lips hadn’t even glazed over each other when he inhaled and lifted himself off of my body with a jolt.

He cleared his throat as he shifted his shirt down, trying to smooth it over his chest.  “That’s enough for today.  We can continue this another time.”

Release Day is Upon Me!

A Promise Kept - Anissa Garcia - Teaser Dance

Release day is upon me, and ohmygoodness, I don’t know how to feel.  The emotions have ranged a rainbow of colors.  RoyGBiv isn’t enough of an acronym (the sequence of hues commonly described as making up a rainbow) as compared to the colors of feelings I’ve had.  But if I had to pick one main color, it would mostly be pink.  Why?  Because I tend to equate that color with a beautiful type of friendship and love in a very pure way.  And that’s what I feel about this book community and all that I’ve experienced with it.  It’s also said to be the color of happiness, and I have much to be joyous for.  I feel very blessed.

I have gone through trying times, but at moments like this it feels all worth it.  I can’t wait to bring more books to the table, and am currently writing the next book.  Whether you like A Promise Kept, read the book, or not, the fact that you supported, took a chance on me and my writing, means the world.

My gratitude is overflowing, my cup runneth over. Thank you a billion times. I’ll remember this forever.

New Release Jitters

Anissa Garcia Blog Thankful

My book is out on Monday.  This Monday, June 6th, for all the world to see.  To say I have new release jitters is an understatement.  I’ve never said I was a brilliant writer.  This isn’t Shakespeare or something as beautiful as a classic novel, but it’s something that I poured myself into.  This was work.  A  lot of learning, growing, crying and praying.

It’s a vulnerable thing – knowing that people will read what I wrote, critique it, judge it, love it, hate it, or think it’s just mediocre.  But at the end of the day, I had fun doing it.  It’s my passion.  I’ve had trying times for sure, but writing is something I love.  Despite all the anxiety and wondering if I’m doing the right thing, the best part of it all is the support I’ve received around me.

Without having even read my book, authors, bloggers, readers, family members and friends have rallied around me and have offered a hand.  To me, that is the most beautiful part of it all.  I’m overly floored at the talented, and amazing people around me telling me they are there for me if I need something.  And that is my favorite part of being in this industry.

So, I’m listing a thank you to all of those who have helped, been a part of, and given support to me.  I’m sure I won’t even come close to hitting everyone.  And a lot of people have been mentioned in my acknowledgements at the end of my book (out June 6th, ahem…so check if you’re mentioned).    Thank you to everyone who has purchased and encouraged me.  God bless you guys, and much love.

Thank you!

Jill Sava, Nadine Winningham, Vilma Gonzalez, Natasha Tomic, Heather White, Jenn Watson, Heather Roberts, K Bromberg, Melanie Harlow, Erin Noelle, T L Swan, Kylie McDermott, RE Hunter, KL Grayson, Amy Daws, Anne Jolin, Rachel Van Dyken, Sara Humphreys, Katana Collins, AL Jackson, Kennedy Ryan, Audrey Carlan, AM Madden, Tia Louise, Jeanette Grey, Jillian Stein, Nina Bocci, Emma Hart, TL Smith, Liz Lovegood, Kelly Elliott, Tracey Davis Zelukovic, Laura Gomez, Laura Fontana-Muller, Laura Archer, Donna Martin, Tara Copsy, Jamee Wykes, Kelli Gordon, Lucy Garcia, Sally Ramos, Jessica Fillipi Zelkovich, Alyssa and Stacy Garcia….  Beta readers, bloggers, promoters, anyone lending a kind word and offer of support…all you guys have been amazing!

Family and friends, you know who you are. <3

COVER REVEAL & GIVEAWAY FOR A PROMISE KEPT

A PROMISE KEPT

Releasing June 6, 2016

a Promise Kept-Anissa Garcia-High Res

My book cover is finally out!  I’ve been holding back on this since the beginning of February, and have probably shown most of the people I’ve come into contact with what the cover looked like before it was even “revealed” today.

Regina Wamba from MaeIDesign.com did such a wonderful job of capturing the feelings from my book.  She asked for input, I gave it, and when she sent the image, my breath caught in my throat and I began to cry.  I’ve lived with Grace and Evan for so long, it feels strange sharing them with other people.  The two years of building these characters inside my head were brought to life on my cover, and I’m so happy to put them out there for others to enjoy.

BOOK TRAILER

EXCERPT

Within the hour, Grace was working up a sweat as she huffed and puffed on the treadmill. The gym was full of morning people who used all the elliptical machines, which was an unexpected and annoying revelation. She grumbled to herself as she picked up speed and let Bruno Mars blast in her ears.
She slowed after half an hour and grabbed her towel to wipe her forehead. Her peripheral vision caught a man walking toward her and she did a double take. Oh, Jesus, help me. Grace tugged her earbuds off and slowed her pace as Evan approached the machine and rested his sweaty forearm against it.
“Good morning, Gracie Lynn.” He stood before her with his damp hair hanging over his forehead and his white shirt clinging onto his chest. She could see every cord of his neck muscles as he steadied his breathing. “You stalking me?”
The length of his physique stood out—trim, well-defined, and unflawed. He was so confident and masculine. Even with sweat trickling down the side of his temples he looked absolutely delicious. It just wasn’t fair.
“You wish, Matthews.” She tried to force her mouth to remain straight as she reached for her bottled water and took a sip. “What are you doing at my gym?”
“Getting tortured for the sake of art.”
Her laugh couldn’t be held back as she stopped the treadmill and jumped off. She glanced over and saw Josh with a few other guys all pumping iron. “Well, you play your role very well.”
“So you’re saying I got a rocking bod?” His smile grew as he followed her. “Wait til you see me without my clothes.”
“God, that ego,” she teased. Grace noted several women looking in their direction.
Some of them gaped, trying to get themselves under control. Others tried to give Evan seductive looks in hopes he would return them. He was hard to ignore. She wondered if any of these women would be brave enough to approach him.
He was probably used to being stared at and hit on all the time. It seemed like second nature to him. A pang of jealousy suddenly hit Grace and she tried to let the emotion pass as quickly as it had appeared. These feelings were beginning to creep on her, more so when she was around him.
“Don’t say you wouldn’t appreciate it,” Evan joked.
“Looks like blondie over there appreciates it.” Grace smirked, pushing her chin toward big boobs on the elliptical. The woman was basically eye-humping Evan the moment she had spotted him.
“You jealous, Gracie? I only got eyes for you, doll.”
“Sure you do, Matthews,” she chuckled as she reminded herself to take it to the friend zone. Stopping, she forced herself to look at Evan and caught him observing her carefully. Her skin prickled and she suddenly felt vulnerable. Heat surged between their bodies and she was aware of how close he was getting to her.
He leaned in toward her, hovering, the largeness of his body towering over her small frame. “I’m taking you to breakfast, Gracie.”
His smooth demand caressed her ears making her forget that friend zone thing. “O-okay,” she stammered, fighting for breath. “I-I- need to just…” She tried to move away from him as she pointed toward the ladies’ room. “Um…I need to shower.”
“Me too,” he chuckled. “Look, I’ll meet you at your place in twenty minutes.”
Grace nodded in compliance as she walked away completely at a loss of how she was going to stop herself from giving in to this gorgeous man.
